La gran “première” del ballet de La boutique fantasque (La juguetería fantasque) tuvo lugar el 5 de junio de 1919. Con el paso de los años, esta tienda de juguetes se hizo muy famosa y un buen día, Carmen Santonja que ya tenía experiencia adaptando obras maestras de la música: Peer Gynt, La Leyenda de Santa María de la Pena Negra, El Pájaro de Fuego..., se inventó una historia paralela a esta música maravillosa y la convirtió en un divertidísimo cuento musical.
En su historia, el dueño de la juguetería, Zacarías Krusch, vive en un punto del Sistema Solar que no es la Tierra, pues en la Tierra ya no se puede vivir. Zacarías se refugia del guirigay de su tienda de juguetes futuristas en su particular museo de juguetes antiguos. Un día, enviado por el presidente de Plutón, aparece un extraño personaje con la misión de comprarle su fantástica boutique. Zacarías se niega, el enviado de Plutón se enfada y se desencadena una batalla campal en la que participa toda la juguetería interplanetaria.
A la imaginación de Carmen Santonja, siempre poética y desbordante, se suman su conocimiento y capacidad técnica en este difícil espacio donde confluyen la música y el lenguaje. Sigue siendo una boutique de juguetes caprichosos pero adaptada a los tiempos que corren, y situada en un futuro, quizá no muy lejano.
